Grade 3 multiplication fluency check
30 one-digit facts typed from memory. No clock on screen: see how many come straight away.
About this check
In the US, the Grade 3 standard 3.OA.C.7 asks children to multiply and divide within 100 and to know all products of two one-digit numbers from memory by the end of the year. This check asks 30 of those facts. A fact answered right within about 3 seconds counts as fluent; slower right answers are still right, and simply show which facts would benefit from more practice.
It is an informal check made by HipHopMath, not a school assessment. To practise the slower facts, play Beat Builder with those tables, or read about strategies for the hard facts.
Frequently asked questions
What does fact fluency mean in Grade 3?
The Common Core standard 3.OA.C.7 says that by the end of Grade 3, students should know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers. Knowing from memory means the answer comes straight away, not by counting or working it out.
Is this check timed?
There is no countdown. Each answer is timed quietly in the browser, and at the end you see how many were right and how many came within 3 seconds. A wrong answer shows a strategy and gives a second try.
Which facts are in it?
Thirty of the facts from 2 × 2 to 9 × 9, in a random order, typed on the number pad. × 0, × 1 and × 10 are left out because most children know them quickly.
Is my child's result saved or shared?
Results update the progress kept in this browser only. Nothing is sent to us or to a school.
