Tricks for the 11 times table
Double digits
For 11 × 1 to 11 × 9, just repeat the digit: 11 × 4 = 44, 11 × 7 = 77.
Ten plus one
11 × 12 is 10 × 12 (120) plus 12, which makes 132.
Split and add for bigger numbers
For 11 × 23, write 2 _ 3 and put 2 + 3 = 5 in the middle: 253.
Look for the pattern
11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, 99, then 110 and 121 and 132.

Frequently asked questions
What breaks the double-digit pattern?
From 11 × 10 onward the pattern changes: 110, 121, 132. Use 10 × n plus n to work them out.
Does the middle-digit trick always work?
It works nicely when the two digits add to 9 or less. If they add to more, carry the extra into the first digit.
